The Entertainment Committee

It's no secret that Dad is the favorite parent in our family.  He's the fun one.  The family entertainment. The lego builder, the video game player, the Sacrament Meeting artist extraordinaire, the ski buddy, the hiker the list could go on and on.  It seems like he's always finding some new and exciting activity to keep everyone happy.

I'm the practical one.  I'm all about business.  Make your bed, brush your teeth, do your homework, practice the piano, clear the table, blah, blah, blah, blah.

The entertainment committee has been out of town for the past week.  I've tried to make a concerted effort to be the fun one.  We've been on walks, we've had a Band Hero competition, gone swimming, played games...this in addition to all of the practical things my left brain is in charge of.

Since he's been gone I've decided that it is a good thing to have two parents that are responsible for different things in making the family run smoothly. And to share in those responsibilities.  It's too exhausting doing both.  I think I may have even fallen asleep during a Sunday afternoon Mousetrap extravaganza.  It's hard to find the energy for both Uno and homework.  I don't know how single parents do it.  Really I don't.  And he's only been gone a week.  My hats off to single parents, whether it is divorce, extended military leave, or long distance commuting.

Granted I'm the only one that is still getting hugs and kisses from the kids, but I'm thrilled he's coming home tomorrow.  I'm tired of the sound of my own voice.   Take a shower.   Clean your room.   And most important in the life a single parent, GO TO BED!!!

You are an amazing mom!! The kids are lucky to have you, as am I!!

I'm sorry for the long trip, but you're right -- you get all of the hugs (except for when Caroline hugged the computer when we were talking on Skype.) I love you. I'll be home in just a bit.
