One More Reason to Love Blue Bunny
As far as ice cream is concerned, I think there is not a better brand around than Blue Bunny. Our favorite is Cherry Chocolate Chip, but we also love Cookie Dough and Turtle Sundae as well. Heck, we wouldn't turn our noses up at any of their flavors. But today I learned there is one more reason to love Blue Bunny.
Our dear friend works for Blue Bunny in Iowa. (Talk about my dream job. Have I mentioned my affection for ANY ice cream?) Over Memorial Day weekend while on vacation in Minneapolis with his family he received word that the Missouri River was overflowing its banks, and his home, within a half mile of the river, was in danger. Upon arriving home he and his family learned that the entire neighborhood was being evacuated, and that they had maybe a day or two to get EVERYTHING out and leave.
What if you were told you had to pack up your life in twenty four hours or so and depart? Could you do it? If you are like me you probably think, maybe. Maybe with the help of family and friends. But what if you lived thousands of miles away from family, and if your friends and neighbors were in the EXACT SAME SITUATION. What if the entire town was being evacuated and there was nowhere to store your belongings? There are no storage units to be found, and definitely no boxes for sale at WalMart, Target, Home Depot or Lowes.
So as my friends stood scared, worrying, and praying about their next move, a Blue Bunny semi pulled up to their house along with seven Blue Bunny V.P.'s to help them pack up their life. Not only did they move furniture out, they had to dismantle their finished basement and get everything out....doors, carpet, fixtures. Blue Bunny gave my friend a week paid off of work, and put his family up in a hotel for a week while they did what they could to save their home. Even though there were no news crews around, I'm fairly certain that Blue Bunny performed this act of service for many of their employees.
Here it is a week and a half later, and my friends will be evacuated from their home until probably mid/end of July. The water will be a serious concern until then. It depends on how well the levees hold. They are still worried. They still pray about saving their home. But isn't it great to know that a large company like Blue Bunny has got their back (and their furniture)? You might think it expected, but I think in this day and age companies that go the extra mile like that for their employees are few and far between. In my opinion, it is just one more excuse to buy BLUE BUNNY!!
