We go to the pool almost daily. We've been on several field trips including the zoo, Thanksgiving Point gardens, the Children's Museum and the park. So sometimes it still makes me crazy when the kids announce that they are bored. My response last summer and this summer is, "Let's go bowling!"
On a hot summer day when it's too hot to play outside, we feel like we've been growing gills because we've spent so much time at the pool, and we don't really feel like going out for an activity that cost lots of $$.... we go bowling. Kids bowl two games a day for free during the summer. We do have to pay for shoe rental, but it's minimal. We can drag just one game of bowling out to a little more than an hour....even longer when we go with friends. The kids are out of the house, it's air conditioned, slightly moderate exercise, and they play groovy music at the bowling alley. (I love watching Caroline do her bowling dance with the ball.) It's been a win for all of us. It's been a perfect way to spend time together on a hot summer afternoon! Check out kidsbowlfree.com. Maybe we'll see you there!
